As a youth Rob worked at his parent’s small manufacturing shop in southern Michigan. Drilling thousands of holes in auto parts tends to make the mind wander. So began his exploration into metalworking…
After receiving a BFA from the University of Michigan he manufactured wind chimes, apprenticed as a goldsmith and eventually become a stay at home dad. As a creative outlet he began metalworking in his garage.
Among other things, Rob designs and fabricates whimsical sterling silver jewelry in Oregon. Inspiration is drawn from children’s drawings as well as experimentation at the jeweler’s bench. Articulated elements are incorporated into his pieces in order to bring more life to each design. All designs are fabricated in small batches so that each piece retains individuality and receives full attention from beginning to completion.
To create each piece Rob utilizes a variety of sheet, wire and tube stock that is sawn, pierced, formed, riveted and soldered. These elements are then oxidized and individually matte finished. He also incorporates gems, stones and fresh water pearls to accent some designs.
Rob’s more recent work includes enameled copper elements. Enamel is kiln fused to copper and then connected to sterling silver components using cold connection techniques such as riveting, bezel setting or sewing. Enjoy…
