Hester Coucke
Hester is at Studio #3 during the 2024 POST tour.
Coming from a family of "makers" I'd like to make my objects out of little bits and pieces as my "art supplies", and make something new out of discarded, found and repurposed materials. I pick up interesting things while going for a walk: sticks, pieces of wood or metal, pinecones, seedpods. I've dug up unexpected things from my garden: half a pair of glasses, bones, many rusted nails, pottery shards. All these things seem to have had a life of their own and are weathered and worn. To get contrast I combine these with brand new items from artificial materials, such as earbuds, elastics, cable ties and spunge.
I try not to take the assemblages too seriously, obviously none of this is archival. They are not intended for eternity, because nothing really is. The little sculptures are to remind the viewer of the "randomness" of life.
