Jess Felix - Handbuilt Ceramics
Jessis at Studio #11 during the 2024 POST tour.
I completed fine art school majoring in Sculpture in 2004 at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia.
Exploring clay as a modeling material back then, opened me up to future experimentations with ceramics.
My work broadly focuses on the themes around home and an inner symbolic landscape, of illuminating women’s stories, of the Earth's and our interconnection to both.
I continue to work on 3-10 pieces at one time, often taking over my kitchen table or going back and forth to my little studio in the forest.

Predominantly my works are hand-built, with some casting add-ons and my knowledge is in mid-fire stoneware. I like to make interesting textures, and organic irregular forms that have hand-drawn shapes and designs etched into them, so you see a few techniques in one piece. My practice has been an important touchstone for me in expressing myself and remaining in awe of the alchemy and earthiness that we all are part of.
