Courtney Marchesi
Courtney is at Studio #10 during the 2024 POST tour.
Hello, my name is Courtney and I am a self-taught artist from right here in Philomath! I have had a hand in art for as long as I can remember, but really got interested in painting in 2017. I was instantly drawn to the world of acrylic paint and dove in head first. I love the flashy pigments and the speed of drying kept up with my fast paced painting style. I love to paint big! Large canvases and murals get me excited. I love the freedom and looseness that comes with wielding a big paint brush!

This year, I decided to shake things up a bit and started dabbling in oils. I think it’s important as an artist to keep exploring and trying new things. I had no idea what I’d been missing! What a fun new medium! And since they behave so much differently from acrylics, they really keep me on my toes. Because of the nature of oils, I was forced to work on a smaller scale which was really difficult, but also really good for me. Now, I alternate back and forth between the two mediums, depending on my mood.
I am a lover of nature and have a background in veterinary medicine, which reflects in so much of my work. Most of my subjects are animals and I commission pet portraits regularly. We share this planet with so many fantastic beings. Capturing their essence, giving the viewer a glimpse into their world is mygoal and brings me so much joy.
…and for the sake of spontaneity *because I like to shake things up* I’ve recently been producing a series of food paintings. I’m not sure where it came from, but it’s been a blast!
