It is a challenge to bring together different mediums into an interplay with the objects to provide a story. I use pencil markings, oil pastels, acrylic paint and printed papers. Women and animals are the most common subjects to occupy the fantastical scenes.
The finished image may bear only the slightest resemblance to the original design as the process gets reworked and the story progresses. I’ve also been creating small works (5”x5”) using small decorative frames attached. These pieces feature birds as well as other objects and stenciled and printed papers.
Judith Sander grew up in Southern California and moved to Oregon with her husband and daughter in 1981. She graduated from SDSU with an art degree in 1971. She has been a part of many exhibits across the nation and is a signature member of the National Collage Society. Judith creates and lives in Philomath, Oregon. Her studio, situated in a cottage at the end of a country road, is filled with bins of objects and papers that eventually become part of her mixed media collages.
