Jeff Hess is an experimental artist pursuing new images and mediums.
My latest project ("Instance di Bellezza") approaches photography with traditional canvas painting concepts. Rather than use acrylic or oil to leave a mark on a canvas I'm using materials like leaves & flowers and moving them through a 3 dimensional space to leave a mark on my camera's exposure. Extending this concept to a full image I use motors and compressed air to apply "brushstrokes" in space which are then recorded via photography.
The colors and textures this process produces are incredibly rich and intimate. They are imbued with movement and speak to the materials that were used to create them in a deep way. I'm calling the process "Temporal Painting" and I continue to expand my capability and resolution in pursuit of new images and developing the practice further.
I present images on both metal and traditional archival photo paper and offer signed limited edition prints of my work.
