I grew up on the coast of Virginia, principal occupations as a child, playing with animals, exploring the forest, sailing. I got a BA, 1972, from Boston U. in psychology, and a MS, 1978, in Animal Behavior from West Virginia U. I joined my friend Doug in Zimbabwe, during the last year of the war for independence, and then moved to South Africa for 10 years of research on insects and rearing two boys. Next, Corvallis, for the last 30 years. It is in Oregon that I became a ceramic artist.
