Wood
For thirty years I worked
as a professional potter using porcelain, decorating it with bright
glazes and flowing brushwork. A few years ago, in order to grow
artistically and to gain new inspiration, I switched my medium
to wood.
Using local timber whenever
possible, I lathe-turn wooden open bowls and hollow vessels, striving
for unique and graceful forms. I enjoy incorporating any imperfections
in the wood to bring out its natural beauty.
When I worked with clay, I
added material to create a form; today I work to remove material
to expose the form that may be found inside a piece of rough wood.
My work is carried in galleries
throughout the Pacific Northwest. I’ve lived in Corvallis
for the last forty years.
