My current work celebrates rare and endangered birds as depicted on wooden cigar boxes. I strive to affirm the beauty and wonder of these diverse feathered creatures, as well as raising awareness of their vulnerability. My special interest in birds comes from an early and long- lived delight in the natural world.
Cigar boxes are my canvas because they are beautiful, compact and useful. They can hold many memories and connections as well. Inside each unique box is a mixed media collage that enhances the focal image.
On the cover of each box, colorful borders set off the acrylic painting. My work can be hung on a wall, or used as a functional box.
In addition to birds, I paint whimsical portraits, local trees, and animals that intrigue me. I keep the images straightforward with a folk art simplicity.
